August 14, 2010 For Immediate Release Contact: Casey Bork - director Music Conservatory begins tenth anniversary of its “Renaissance” The Eastern Conservatory of Music and Arts (ECMA) will commemorate its tenth “reawakening” year with exciting programs, contests, and events. Monthly contests will keep Conservatory students knowledgeable about music and Conservatory history. There will be special concerts and events throughout the year. All students will receive commemorative tee shirts. Originating in 1946 under the direction of Virgil Bork, the Conservatory closed in 1957. Grandson Casey Bork reopened ECMA in 2000 in Whitehouse. He said, “ I feel honored to have been able to spearhead the renaissance of my grandfather’s conservatory. He was a brilliant musician and teacher, who brought joy to many people. He would be proud that his Conservatory is still running.” The irony in this story is that the grandfather had to leave the directorship of the Conservatory because of heart disease and Casey Bork reopened it because of a heart attack that forced a job change. Lessons for students will begin the week of September 13 at locations in Bedminster (at the Lamington Presbyterian Church) and Whitehouse (at Whitehouse Preparatory School). Weekly lessons are arranged to accommodate the schedules of both teachers and students Performance affiliate of ECMA, the Whitehouse Wind Symphony, will present a concert in Hoffman Farm Park in Tewksbury September 25 at 7:30 p.m. and two holiday concerts in December. The ECMA is a non-profit center for lessons and performances from highly qualified teachers and performers.
